Breaking up is hard to do. But with note-taking apps I know I’m doing what is best for a healthy, productive digital life.
I still love making a list and dumping ideas I don’t know what to do with yet; but someday, somehow I have to deal with it.
So how can I survive in this digital age without apps that I can access all the time (as long as there’s wifi)?
Solution: I use the Notes app that was pre-installed in my iPhone.
That’s it. No fancy gadgets. Memory booster. But I have my handy dandy notebook with me.
Notes can also be deleted like Reminders which I stopped using and deleted already like the other pre-installed apps.
But not Notes. I’m sticking with it.
So how did I come into conclusion that I don’t need many apps to capture my thoughts?
The Beginning of the End
It all started when the app that I’m using can’t be supported when I updated the iOS which happens all the time.
What will happen to all my notes on Springpad? Do you remember this app?
It is the rival of Evernote. After the demise of my fav app, I thought of switching to Evernote; instead, I tried bunch of apps.
I opted for simple apps that allows you to keep notes within folders. Quite neat eh!
Then the same thing happened over and over again. The update ended my budding productive relationship. I like organizing stuff but this note taking dilemma is quite toxic; I could use my time to organize the photos on my phone and desktop and back it up.
Enough of the chaos!
Love Notes
It’s true. I love Notes more than ever. I used to ignore it but not anymore; all my schedules, list are in there. My life depends on it.
What will I do today? Check the app. What will I write while waiting? Write on the app.
Here are the other benefits of using a basic free app:
Hoarding things and thoughts are at bay. I only write the important ideas. There’s no need to worry whether the app will not be supported or pulled out in the store by the developer.
Scheduling is a breeze. I use my calendars for events but when it comes to my task for a day or week, I rely with Notes.
Organizing my notes is faster and easier. Everything is in sync in my phone, tablet, and desktop.
Buying grocery is fun. I hardly kick myself nowadays every time I miss buying something because it’s not on the “list.” (Mental note to self: I told you buy one more almond milk; buy two if it’s on sale. )
Writing productivity increases. I can spend time writing on my phone like this blog post which was written in a library. People must have thought that I’m a millennial wasting my time chatting on a Sunday afternoon. Nope. I’m not even hook to the library public wifi.
My concern now, is how to moderate my habit of creating notes. Otherwise, I’ll lose track of things. I often update my grocery list and reminders that sometimes I didn’t want to look to avoid doing tasks I should have done ages ago.
App that I Used but Not Anymore
If you’re not like me and you like to use a different note app, free or premium, then have a look at the apps that I used before simplifying my life with what’s already available on my iPhone.
- Springpad
- Trello
- Workflowy
- Write
These apps are great in their own right. Perhaps, you are even using one of the apps on the list (except the defunct Springpad).
As for me, I’m good with what I have. Nothing to complain so far but have lots to do based on my schedule. So I hope Apple wouldn’t decide to discontinue the Notes or else what? I have no idea.
