I was looking for a TKL mechanical keyboard as a replacement for my Keychron K3 (Version 1) which I gave to my sibling.
The 75% layout of Keychron K3 is just tight for my liking. After searching for a long time, for less than CAD 100 I found Royal Kludge RK-R87 TKL Mechanical Keyboard on Amazon. It’s not available anymore and the new design of Royal Kludge keyboards has more of a retro look.
I like the look and feel of my new TKL except for one thing: I cannot find the Royal Kludge software for Mac.

Then I thought of reaching out to Royal Kludge on Facebook and received a response on Messenger. I should have done this sooner than researching online.
Please note that there’s still no software of the RK keyboards for the Mac due to its system and privacy policy. Currently, the software is compatible with Windows operating system only. (Win 10 or below.)
And that ended my quest and answered my question immediately.
Why Do I Need the Royal Kludge Software Anyway?
I hate RGB lights. Not a fan of rainbow colours illuminating my keyboard.
So with that, I settled on perusing the manual that comes with it. Again it was another failure.
I cannot turn off the RGB light of RK-R87 on Mac. The only thing I can do is to lessen the light from the keyboard. I managed to only have white side lights.
On Mac: Fn + <— Back
Tip: cmd on Mac = Alt on Royal Kludge Keyboard
No more white or RGB lights. This should solve the problem, I guess?
NO. I have to press the keys every time I turn on my laptop and want to turn off RGB lights.
Oh well! Anyway, I hardly notice any lights when I’m touch typing so I guess that solved the problem.

RGB lights aside, I shouldn’t fail to mention how I love the thock sound of the stock keycaps and yellow switches of the RK-R87.
Although it’s only a wired (no Bluetooth) mechanical keyboard, I don’t mind not having to charge another device. I pair it with Logitech MX Anywhere 3 which doesn’t require frequent charging on Bluetooth mode.
What should I do next with my Royal Kludge TKL Mechanical Keyboard? I should probably list all the combination keys to control the lights and equivalent keys.
And I also want to try Akko switches which was my original plan. I wanted to pair it with a Monsgeek MG75W Kit, an affordable mechanical keyboard. Alas, it’s always out of stock.
What keyboard do you use? And what size do you prefer? Do you like having Home and End keys along with arrow keys?
