My Mobile Cellphone Upgrade: from iPhone 6 to iPhone 13 Mini 128GB

Updated on December 13, 2021 By Carolyn Leave a Comment

I did it! I splurged on a new mobile phone. The lates iPhone 13 Mini. It was unlikely for me to buy the latest phone in the market.

It’s a tradition for me to buy older models to pay less and still get software updates for years to come.

So what happened then? Well there’s a lengthy justification for my seemingly impulsive action.

Setting up the iPhone 13 Mini 128GB

Why Did I Get a New Phone?

The plan is to get the iPhone 14 next year. The rumored notchless iPhone is what I am aiming for. But my ancient iPhone 6 has become a bother.

1. I can’t update my most used apps (mostly banking apps) and of course the OS. It doesn’t bother me whether my phone has the latest features. As long as my apps can be updated, I am in cloud 9.

2. The next culprit is the battery. Well what can you expect in an old technology.

But my phone still looks good from the outside. Yes and it’s dying slowly in the inside that I have to bring a charger. Wait till I buy a Nimble power bank. Another Christmas wish list?

With my winning justification (according to me) along came an opportunity to buy pricey phone that doesn’t come with a pricey data plan.

And so that’s how I gave permission to myself. Go, spend, and worry no more “soon to be peasant” me.

Behold: The Mini Midnight and my fingerprints

Why Did I Choose iPhone 13 Mini?

I held on to my iPhone 6 for a long time because it’s still working but most of all because of its size.

It fits my hand. And that means a lot.

I cannot imagine myself holding a phone with two hands and texting or browsing. For several days and times I kept looking at the specs (or more like the costly price tag) of iPhone 13 Mini.

I went for iPhone 13 Mini Midnight, 128GB for CAD 960.

My credit card would pay for this, of course.

That’s just perfect for me I told myself. The right size for the right price. There’s no need to visit a store to see it in person when I already watch the Apple Event which I don’t do except this year.

I was so confident that I ordered a Pela Case for iPhone 13 Mini first. It’s a BOGO sale on Pela. Yay!

So I went to the store and received the phone in a box. I have no idea how it looks. The store doesn’t have any iPhone 13 Mini on display unlike Google Pixel and Samsung phones.

It’s Smaller than I Thought

For a moment I regretted my decision while ignoring how much I waited to get a new phone.

Was it late to return the mini and get the iPhone 13 instead. But I detest huge phones so I was stuck.

Placing iPhone 6 side by side of iPhone 13 Mini, I couldn’t helped but laugh because of how small it is. It’s not that big of a deal. Really? Yes. Really. Not a big deal. It’s a small deal.

Why not give it a chance?

Because I wouldn’t return it no matter what. I am stuck with it.

It’s Not Bad at All

Stop whining. I watched several YouTube videos on why getting a mini is the best decision ever.

One after the other, I was aggreeing with all the advantages mentioned in videos. And that’s all I care for. Clearly, confirmation bias is at play.

The Everyday Dad

These two channels are my go-to authority when it comes to gadgets. But Dave 2D comes on top.

Byte Review: Here for the aesthetic.

Trust me when I say that I forgot how small it is . . . smaller than iPhone 6. After months of using, for me it’s a phone I can use daily and satisfied on how I can do a lot of things.

I watched videos on what should be changed on the settings.

The camera is my favourite feature. The photos are sharp and so are the videos. The least was the tab in Safari that keeps changing colour depending on the website.

When I applied the screen protector I cannot press the flashlight and camera icons might as well remove it. My bad I have to press for a bit and then remove my fingers to make it work. I’m still learning this new phone.

This is what happens when using an ancient phone then moving to the latest model (as of this writing).

It’s a Keeper

After using iPhone 13 Mini for two months, I knew that I am going to keep it. And I hope for upcoming iPhones to have a mini version. Please . . . please . . . Por favor!

Not everyone wants a bulky phone.

But can Apple add more features to the Mini that are available to the Pro.

Not all. Maybe a lot of features. Too much to ask? And keep the price reasonable especially in Canadian dollars. I could buy a Linux laptop for a price of an iPhone.

Did you get an iPhone 13 this year or are you waiting for the 14 that might come without a notch?
