How to Delete DesktopServer

Updated on January 30, 2019 By Carolyn Leave a Comment

I’ve used DesktopServer to set up a localhost environment for my WordPress sites.

After using it several times, I figured it’s best to try what did work which include WAMP, XAMPP, MAMP, and AMPPS.

Recently, I tried Local by Flywheel but it was too slow yet the easiest to install.

Before I locally set up a website, I need to clean up the mess left behind by DesktopServer.

Steps on How to Delete DesktopServer

This is what I did to clear all the files of DesktopServer on my computer with Windows 10.

  1. Delete the folder in
    C:\xampplite
    C:\ProgramData\DesktopServer
C:\This PC\Documents\Websites (or whatever name you choose to contain the websites)
  2. After deleting the files above, you can also restore your original system hosts file. This is optional.

I had no idea about this until I decided to delete DesktopServer on my computer. So whenever I try something new similar to DesktopServer, I’ll check this file.

What Am I Using Now?

I installed AMPPS on my Toshiba laptop and would give it a try before installing it to my ACER desktop. If you have any recommendation, I would love to know especially if it’s a freeware.
